As you can see on the following pictures, the escutcheons (the metal pieces between door and handle) can be pushed together. If you push down the smaler side (picture 2), you'll see 4 holes in the handle. A smal metal pin is pushed through two of the holes. You can drive it out with a smal metal shaft. A smal torx screwdriver and a hammer worked fine for me.
