Rotary engine madness
Megola is not a name of a country in Africa, it's the name of a motorcycle. During the past century many crazy motorcycles were build. Many new technologies were tested and a really awesome bike was the 1922 Megola. Megola was a German motorcycle that was build by the Deutsche-Megola-Werke GmbH in Munich between 1921 and 1925. The idea of the Megola was to build a bike with a rotating engine included in the wheel.
The first engine was a 3 cylinder in 1919 that was changed to a 5 cylinder in 1920. The Megola had no clutch and not transmission and with the 39 cui and 14 HP engine in the front wheel, you had to stop the engine to stop the motorcycle. A german reporter of a newspaper wrote 1938, after he drove the Megola for testing purpose, that he automatically turned to the streets with no traffic instead of using the way he wanted to drive - just to avoid stopping at a crossroad. Once stopped, you needed to restart your engine by lifting the front wheel and kicking the spokes to turn the wheel and start the engine or by pushing the motorcycle.
Today the Megola is a high sought motorcycle. Only 1% of the 2000 build motorcycles exist today, making the bike a rare collector's item.
